What are Prescribed Minimum Benefits

Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs) are a set of healthcare benefits that all registered medical schemes in South Africa must provide by law. PMBs help ensure that members have access to essential healthcare services when they need them.,

The Medical Schemes Act (131 of 1998) requires medical schemes to cover the diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care of

• Any life-threatening emergency medical condition
• A defined list of 271 medical conditions
• A defined list of 26 chronic conditions, known as the Chronic Disease List (CDL) conditions.
